Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Initiates and responsible for all phases of an audit, compilation or review engagement.
- Maintains contact with clients throughout year; possesses thorough knowledge of client and facets of client’s business.
- Develops thorough knowledge, understanding and application of tools, systems and processes in the discipline.
- Plans, schedules and ensures staff attendance at engagements using firm policies and procedures.
- Maintains familiarity with qualifications of staff members; reviews staff assignments for appropriateness.
- Prepares engagement letters for approval by firm partner.
- Evaluates internal controls and work programs prepared by staff.
- Effectively monitors engagement time budgets.
- Supervises staff and provides on-the-job training; reviews workpapers and reports prepared by staff.
- Anticipates problem areas of engagement, addresses them appropriately with effective professional judgment.
- Keeps partner informed of important developments on engagement; analyzes problems and recommends solutions.
- Ensures financial statements and letters of recommendations are prepared in accordance with professional and firm standards.
- Communicates progress of engagements, problems and resolutions to client.
- Develops well-trained staff through coaching and mentoring, assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, developing training aids and acting as an instructor in professional development programs. Seeks feedback as to quality of work, skill sharing and knowledge transfer.
- Prepares or supervises preparation of regular engagement performance reviews, reports, projects as needed. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
- Prepares invoices to clients, communicates details of fees to clients and assists in collection of overdue accounts.
- Develops strong knowledge of firm’s philosophy, structure, services, quality standards, utilization and productivity.
- Maintains and possesses a general and application of relevant profession standards, emerging laws and regulations and corporate governance processes. Uses knowledge to formulate client related recommendations.
- Participates in firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
- Develops consulting skills and understanding of client businesses and uses this to diagnose needs/opportunities and suggests solutions. Seeks client feedback as to quality of work and exceeding expectations.
- Works towards or refines skills to develop and sustain expertise in a technical field and/or industry.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in accounting or closely corresponding field.
- Hold current and valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. A member in good standing with AICPA.
- Maintain minimum of forty (40) hours of continuing professional education required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills.
- Eight to twelve years’ experience desired in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of audit knowledge, scope and research; and accounting tasks. Ability to represent client before audit authorities.
- Five years of recent experience preferred supervising and directing work of staff.
- Five years of recent experience preferred interacting and developing client relationships. Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a CPA firm.
- Participates in career development program(s) to improve managerial; communication, including facilitation and feedback sharing; problem solving and project management; and interpersonal skills to project confidence and credibility in dealing with clients and firm personnel, and positively influence outcomes.
- Proficiency in use of computer financial statement preparation, research and planning software programs.
- A current, valid driver license.
