About Us

Our mission is to connect people of all ages, needs and abilities to the Great Lakes through science, education and recreation. Our programming focuses on inclusivity – breaking down physical and financial barriers to accessing Great Lakes educational & recreational opportunities and inspiring tomorrow’s workforce to pursue careers in freshwater sciences and marine technology. The Discovery Center & Pier is in the process of redeveloping our Pier and 16-acre campus into a base for Great Lakes education including the site for the Traverse City Freshwater Research and Innovation Center.
