The St. Clair Butterfly Foundation (SCBF) is a national nonprofit headquartered in Michigan that strengthens schools, justice, behavioral health, and community systems through a neuroscience-informed approach to human behavior. Rather than managing behavior, SCBF recalibrates environments to reduce reactivity, increase consistency, and improve outcomes.
SCBF’s work is grounded in a simple principle: regulation precedes performance. When environments reduce perceived threat and adults respond with consistency, individuals are better able to engage, learn, and contribute.
SCBF integrates neuroscience, expressive arts, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into a practical, implementation-ready framework. Through professional development, real-time tools, and ongoing support, we equip educators, leaders, and frontline professionals to respond effectively and sustain stable, high-functioning environments.
With nearly two decades of implementation, SCBF has supported over 40,000 individuals and partnered with schools, juvenile justice systems, behavioral health, and community organizations nationwide, with consistent reductions in disciplinary incidents, improved engagement, and increased staff confidence.
SCBF is not a program layered onto existing systems. It is a framework that strengthens how systems function from within.
