The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church was established in London in 1865. The Salvation Army, Traverse City has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 122 years in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties. Over 19,000 receive assistance locally from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, clothing and critical need assistance, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, relief for disaster victims and opportunities for underprivileged children.
