CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN HOSTS THE MOST POPULAR 3D ARCHERY EVENT IN THE NATION

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (June 10, 2022) – The largest 3D archery event in the nation is happening this weekend at Crystal Mountain. Thousands of archers from all across the country are gathered in Thompsonville for the Total Archery Challenge. This is the only event of its kind in Michigan this year.

“This is the first time Crystal Mountain has held this kind of event, and we are thrilled to welcome such a diverse group of people to Benzie County,” John Melcher, Crystal Mountain CEO, said. “Archery is one of the many summer activities we offer here, but the Total Archery Challenge is taking it to a different level this weekend.”

There are more than a hundred 3D targets in the shape of deer, elk, boar and other animals spread across six, professionally designed courses. Three of the courses are on the ski hill, which archers take the Crystal Clipper chairlift to access.

“Crystal Mountain is the perfect place for our event,” Sean DeGrey, Total Archery Challenge event director, said. “The 1500-acre property has a great mix of terrain, fantastic views, and most importantly, offers a safe environment for archers and their families.”

Each course is designed to test the marksmanship of all skill levels, challenging archers to shoot from varying distances, angles and around natural obstacles. Knock times start at 7 a.m. each day and end around 4 p.m.

During the event, anyone is welcome to explore the dozens of hunting and outdoor companies set up in Vendor Village. For many participants, this is an opportunity to test out new gear ahead of bow season.

“The equipment these archers are using is very high end and they look forward to testing it out at TAC events across the country,” said DeGrey. “But ultimately, this event is just for fun – to meet new people, hang out with family and friends and celebrate comradery.”

After the archery events, participants are invited to an after party fundraiser. Friday’s after party supports Warrior Rising, a non-profit organization to help U.S. Military veterans and their families create sustainable businesses and perpetuate hiring of veterans. The after party on Saturday supports the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a conservation movement to protect and enhance wildlife habitats across the country.

This is the seventh year Total Archery Challenge has held an event in Michigan, and its tenth year in operation. DeGrey said he looks forward to bringing the event back to northern Michigan next year and many years to come.
