About NAMI Grand Traverse: We are an organization of families, friends, and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. We are dedicated to providing support and advocacy to ensure better lives for people living with mental health conditions in our community. We provide free mental health support, online groups, resources, and educational programs to local residents.
The Opportunity: NAMI Grand Traverse is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors as Volunteer Board Members. As a governing body, the Board provides strategic leadership and oversight to ensure NAMI Grand Traverse can fulfill its mission and serve the community effectively. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals committed to reducing mental health stigma and promoting recovery.
Key Responsibilities: Board Members are expected to actively engage in the following areas:
- Monthly Meetings: Attend and prepare for the required monthly Board of Directors meeting.
- Community Outreach & Advocacy: Actively participate in community outreach initiatives, local advocacy efforts, and public awareness campaigns to promote NAMI Grand Traverse programs and the overall mental health of the community.
- Governance & Oversight: Provide financial and strategic oversight, ensure legal and ethical integrity, and monitor organizational performance.
- Fundraising & Development: Actively participate in developing and supporting fundraising initiatives to secure the financial health of the organization.
Term and Time Commitment: Terms are 3 years. The total time commitment is up to 5 hours per month, which includes the monthly Board meeting and active participation in key areas noted above.
Qualifications: We seek candidates who are passionate about the NAMI mission and possess diverse skills, experience, and backgrounds, including professional expertise in areas such as finance, non-profit management, legal, marketing, mental healthcare, or personal/family experience with mental illness.
Location: Serving Northwest Michigan (Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Wexford counties). Board meetings are held on the 4
th Tuesday of each month (11:30am), in-person in Traverse City with remote access.
