10th Anniversary of NPalliative News Release

 

In 2014, we started as Chronic Care Management with one palliative care nurse practitioner and a supportive local physician (some humorously called a “Rogue NP with a Ghost Doctor”). Julie Hartl MSN FNP-C and Dr Thomas Nussdorfer began working together to offer old-fashioned in-home & assisted-living visits to clients with disabilities and fragile chronic diagnoses who needed a convenient & private method of care.

 

Our mission was, and shall always be, to provide high-quality & in-home practitioner based healthcare to treat distressing symptoms, prevent unnecessary hospital/ER readmissions, and to give the type of nursing care we would give to our own families. 

 

Over the years, Chronic Care Management was rebranded to NPalliative, slowly increased in size, added on office staff, 24/7 triage nurses, more excellent providers, more trained specialists, and grew a fantastic team, thus proving our worth to the community. We took on new local investors who also believed that Palliative Care was important. We all feel strongly that it has a place here, it is needed, and it is about treating those with distressing symptoms who prefer to stay in the comfort of their home while seeking aggressive treatment… or choosing not to. Our clients lead the decision-making and we support them fully. 

 

Over the past 10 years we have moved 3 times, finally landing in our own building space in Traverse City. We have joined many Northern Michigan chambers of commerce, sponsored local business events, won numerous prestigious awards from Traverse Connect, the Record Eagle - Simply the Best, and we were named a Top 50 Michigan Business To Watch! 

 

We stayed open 24/7 during Covid to serve clients in need of treatment, we bought and delivered groceries to those who were unable to leave home, we donated items to Father Fred & local community agencies, and medical supplies to Project Cure who help third world countries. Together, our colleagues wrote a book for other NPs throughout the country wanting to learn how to start a practice of their own and also started a local yearly $1500 college scholarship to those in a nursing program, the Katie Bigelow NP Memorial Scholarship, on behalf of a wonderful colleague we lost in 2022.

 

NPalliative considers all of our staff, mentors and investors as trusted colleagues, and we appreciate their hard work & dedication. The NPs work autonomously in the community, yet together as a team as well, giving the best care we can to clients within the 7 counties we cover. Our office care coordinates with other local agencies & providers, and consult with the best specialists in town for our fragile clientele. 

 

After 10 years, we are only getting better! We are locally-owned and operated, truly a small business run by caring professionals, and want you to know that we love our Northern Michigan community!
