Applications Being Accepted for New Manistee-Missaukee-Wexford Multi-County Materials Management Planning Committee

CADILLAC, LAKE CITY, & MANISTEE, MI – Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford Counties are accepting applications for a new Multi-County Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC). The committee will help guide the development of a new Multi-County Materials Management Plan for Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford Counties with assistance from Networks Northwest.

At the beginning of 2024, the State of Michigan called for an update to County Materials Management Plans, formerly known as Solid Waste Plans. Current Solid Waste Plans focus on disposal capacities, while the updated Materials Management Plans will focus on sustainable materials management, such as recycling and composting, instead of primarily disposal.

The new MMPC will be composed of at least eleven members, but up to fifteen, who are involved with materials management or elected officials in Manistee, Missaukee, and/or Wexford Counties. In addition to the eleven required members, Missaukee and Wexford County have the option to each appoint two additional members - an elected official within the respective county and a representative of business that generates waste. MMPC meetings will be open to the public, follow the Open Meetings Act, and may be recorded for note keeping and review. The Manistee County Board of Commissioners will have approval of the committee membership with an opportunity for input from Missaukee and Wexford while each County Board of Commissioners will retain individual approval of the Multi-County Materials Management Plan.

Anyone interested in serving on the MMPC is encouraged to submit an application over the next couple weeks, which can be found at bit.ly/ManMisWexMMP. Further information on Materials Management Plans can be found at bit.ly/MMPguide
