The membership of the Traverse City Country Club has approved a Golf Course Improvement Plan, slated to begin in Fall 2025. The improvements, designed by Traverse City based Renaissance Golf Design, will accomplish several golf course design goals throughout the 110-year-old course, which serves about 560-member households.
Besides improving tee, fairway, and green turf quality, the renovation will boost architectural interest, the variety, and the strategy involved by members and their guests while playing the golf course. Integration of different lengths of par 3 holes, introducing a long par 4 and a long par 5 hole are also part of the strategic plan.
The plan is not a redesign of the course, but rather an improvement plan aimed at increasing the enjoyability of the golf course by all levels of players. The routing and hole numbering will not be changed under the plan.
Twenty-Eight-year Golf Course Superintendent, and a national board of director for the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (GCSAA) Steve Hammon CGCS said, “After nearly three decades as the Superintendent at Traverse City Country Club, I am excited and inspired to have Renaissance Golf Design leading the renovations.”
“This Golf Course Improvement Plan will effectively improve the playability and visual experience of our already beautiful golf course, enhancing the enjoyment for our members and their guests long into the future”, said six-time Michigan Open Golf Champion and PGA Professional at Traverse City Country Club Scott Hebert.
Traverse City Country Club recently completed a remodel of the main floor of the clubhouse in 2024, and in 2020 completed the addition of an outdoor pool complex. The Vision 2020 project also included a new par 3 hole (#9), which was designed and built by Renaissance Golf Design, along with improvements to the putting green, the golf staging area, and the first tee.
Said Brandon Theophilus, Green Committee Chairman at Traverse City Country Club, “With the outstanding success of the Vision 2020 projects, and now the beautiful main floor of the clubhouse upgrades, the golf course is the next logical piece that we need to improve in order to sustain the trajectory of the Club.”
The club offers several types of golf and social memberships. Both membership types include use of the clubhouse, golf course, pool, fitness center and much more. For further information, contact Susan McElduff, Membership Director (231) 947.0985 or susanl@tcgcc.com.
